To verify the licensing and insurance of any company, please use the following link to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration:

After opening this website, you need to click on licensing and insurance under FMCSA searches.

You will be asked to provide name and location of the company or its license numbers (can be found on web sites or quotes).

Once you enter this information it will allow you to open up reports about the company.

At the information screen, on the right hand side, click “HTML”. This will pull up that company’s Motor Carrier Details.

The first thing you should look at is the authority status. This will tell you whether a company is licensed or not.

You will be able to find that information on the Motor Carrier Details page of this website. It will simply say “active” or “inactive.”

All additional related information and links are located at the bottom of the page (Insurance, Authority, Pending applications and Revocations).

Another main thing to look at is the required insurance for the company.

In this section, you should see the amount of insurance that the company is supposed to have on file and what, if any, it does actually have.

You can click on “Insurance History” to be able to see if the company currently holds the required liability and cargo insurance which are mandatory for a moving company.

In order to find out if a moving company had ever had their licensed revoked just click on “Authority History” or “Revocations. The dates of revocation are included.

We hope you find this information helpful and hope to be of further service to you in the future.
